Federal, State, Local Highway Infrastructure
Lee County is blessed with modern highway infrastructure. In
2003, the Georgia DOT spent a disproportionate share of
money per- capita in Lee County for progressive highway
projects. The County completed an East/West Connector
affectionately known as "Forrester Parkway" which was a 25
year design/build project in 2004. County residents and
emergency service professionals now enjoy rapid access to
all quadrants of the County.
U.S. Hwy 82 /520 W is a four-laned divided highway that runs
unimpeded through Alabama and Mississippi all the way to
Alamogordo, New Mexico. Going North, U.S. 82 connects with
I-85 which leads directly to Atlanta.
U.S. Hwy 19 runs North/South and connects Lee County with
Atlanta, GA. It is currently on Georgia's Governor Road
Improvement Plan (GRIP) to be four-laned from Albany to
Atlanta. This will serve as an ideal alternative to
Interstate I-75.
GA Hwy 133 is also on the State paving list and will be
four-laned from the ALbany/MSA to Valdosta within the next
five years.
Interstate 75 is approximately 25-30 minutes from Leesburg
with accessible, four-laned access.
